今日はある先生のお話から。
先生はフィジー人でありながら、フィジー語を話すよりも英語を話しているほうがより心地良い、話しやすい。と言う。
そしてまた、久しぶりに地元（村）に帰ると、フィジー語を話すのが困難だとも言う。
英語を学んでいる私たちにとってはなんとも羨ましい限りですが、さらに先生は、「親戚の子供に関しては、英語しか話せない子もたくさんいるの。」と続けた。
確かにインターナショナルな世の中になってきてはいるから、英語の価値はトップで揺るがない事は間違いないだろう。
先生はそのうち日本ももっとインターナショナルになるんじゃないか、そしてそれはすばらしい。なんて言っていたが、まぁ、おれは、多分日本に住んでいて、こういう事には今にも未来にも出くわさないと思う。ずっと海外暮らしをしている人は別として。
英語の勉強をしている身としておかしいかもしれないけど、
もし仮に、自分に子供が出来、それらの世代になったとき、
今この先生に聞いたようなフィジーの状況になっていたら、
どう思うだろう。
そんな感じで『母国語』ということについて少し考えてみた。
まぁ日本は単一民族国家だから案ずるに及ばずか…。

この後土砂降りだったのだが、まぁ嵐の前のショウの始まりを告げる音頭をとっている人たちと、BAR in the pool ということで、オーストラリア人達と、楽しく飲みました。
ってか下ネタ日本語ワードを、これ「乾杯」って意味なんだよ～。とかいって外国人に教えるのはやめましょう！笑 おもいっきり乾杯する時「ち○ち○!!!」って言われました。
It's nice to see you learning and growing a lot there, which makes me happy! A professor,Harumi Kimura wrote her interesting experiences in Pakistan many years ago. One day she was in a taxi driven by a local Pakistani. Surprised at his good English, she praised him for it just innocently and asked why he spoke English so well. She felt sorry and regreted a bit in hearing his answer. He said, "Is it good to speak English well? It's not always true.Because it tells our sad history that we were once
colonized and forced to speak English."
In Bhutan the government has adopted "Immersion education" （浸りきる教育）as a national policy, meaning the school kids have to learn all the subjects in English! While of course parents speak Bhutanese, English is becoming more natural for kids. In Quebec, a part of Canada, has had a long and strong concern about speaking French as the first language, believing it is their important culture to keep with pride. The rule to preserve French seems strict! In America, there are so many Hispanic immigrants and some of them speak "Spanglish"(Spanish& English). So how can we tell about "language"??
I sincerely admired your knowledge. I want to be a person like you in point of English and knowledge as soon as possible. When I came here, a lack of knowledge made me nervous. What I knew about better than the other students was only History. I did not know anything about society, growing up and things like that. I really want to know about various things in this world.
By the way, our water supply has been cut off the whole day through. It is so inconvenient!!! I can’t even brush my teeth!!
But anyway 4 of us in our accommodation are helping each other and surviving.
Some saved bottles of water are getting less. It’s raining all the day. We go outside for piss. However I make myself fun in this such a misery situation.
Is that evidence of being doing what I want?

出発までにまで時間があって、いろいろ考えてしまい、不安と希望が入り混じってしまう時期ですが、初心を忘れず自分の信念を貫いた能動的に行動して行こうと思います！
